Hey guys! How's it going? I'm doing alright. Just taking things day by day. One task at a time. I've been working a lot so the burnout is real, but I decided to finally ease up on the overtime which is why I needed a little break last week. But for some reason, I ended up in a zombie mood which ended up with this movie popping up so without further ado, Movie of the Day from the other day: Cargo!
How would you help your family if you knew you had 48 hours left to live? That's what happened to Andy (played by Martin Freeman) who has to do whatever it takes to take care of his family even if he is turning into a zombie. It wasn't until he wanted to surprise his wife with a little gift when he ended up triggering a series of unfortunate events for the family during this post pandemic time. Zombies are among them, so they have to stay safe since Kay (played by Susie Porter) and little Rosie (played by Nova Sjoberg) are all he has left. After Kay gets infected, it's up to Andy to make sure Rosie is in safe hands, because he has to make sure he doesn't hurt her or the people he wants to take care of her since Kay bit him. After meeting few candidates, he decides to leave Rosie with an unexpected caretaker but not until after he turns.
I wanted to select an interesting image for this movie review, but I didn't know whether or not it would be a little too triggering for some of my readers so I decided to keep it light. For a horror movie, it sure felt more like a suspense but then again, isn't that all zombie movies? It keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering who's going to get infected and who's going to survive. In this one, it starts from the beginning. For some, it might start off slow but I think they did a wonderful job leading up to the parents getting infected. It was fast and to the point especially since in this movie, the virus is called the Fracking Virus which is an odd way to put it, but since the setting is in Australia, I'll allow it haha. Maybe it was the spirituality that threw me through a loop, but once someone turns, they end up burying their head in the ground so next thing you see are a bunch of butts pointing in the air because they buried only their heads. I may have to watch the movie again, but it kept me captivated mainly for Rosie, because I did wonder who Andy was going to find to take care of her and I knew for a fact it wasn't going to be Vic (played by Anthony Hayes) and his girl, Lorraine (played by Caren Pistorious) because after showing what he does in order to get rid of some of the zombies, it kind of makes you not like the guy. Thoomi (played by Simone Landers) has an interesting take in the entire movie, because not only is her father a zombie but she plays a key role with Andy after meeting him. All in all, I wouldn't have minded watching this movie on the big screen. It would have been interesting to see these types of zombies since it has been a minute since I have seen zombies in theaters. Anyways, this film can be found on Netflix so if you are in a horror mood, check it out! You might like it!
*This movie is not rated, but it does involve some gruesome images and violence
My Rating: B+
