The Minecraft Movie

Hey guys! How's it going? I'm doing good! It's starting to warm up here and I'm not liking it haha. Luckily it hasn't reached the triple digits yet, but here's to another week or so of nice weather. Anyways, Movie of the Night the other day: The Minecraft Movie!

In a world where you can create anything, what would be the first thing you make? For Steve (played by Jack Black), he made everything and anything even Lava Chicken except the Orb of Dominance which helped him get to the Overworld from the real world. In the Overworld, everything is in the shape of a cube even the animals, and by breaking down items, you can store and create other items like houses, pickaxes, and utilize them in any way shape or form. It wasn't until Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison (played by Jason Mamoa) found the Orb during an auction but didn't think about it. High schooler Henry (played by Sebaastian Hansen) didn't figure it out until he wandered into The Garbage Man's shop. With the help from Henry's sister and their realtor, they not only find out about the Overworld, but Steve and what the world has to offer. What can go wrong with that?

Fun fact: I was on a Minecraft fix not too long ago. It was before the Pandemic, but I didn't realize how much creativity a person can put in the game. Let alone have the time to include the mods. I'm more of an objective driven game person, but I still enjoy the simple games like Minecraft. Anyways, I knew from the get-go this movie was going to be silly and I'm not just saying this because Jack Black is in it. But he does add to the silliness especially with all the songs he sings in it. I'm pretty sure he had the rights to create the soundtrack for the movie. To add to the silliness, Jason Mamoa does a great job as a classic gamer with his pink jacket and the audacity to try and outdo Steve. Also the joke of calling Henry "Hank" throughout the entire movie cracked me up between the two of them, but asides from the silliness, I actually enjoyed the actual story they came up with. I know there's not much of a story when it comes to Minecraft, because everyone can create their own when it comes to the game, but it was interesting how they incorporated a lot in this movie like the Ender Pearl, the Piglins and let's not forget a tribute to Technoblade (which by the way, if you blink you might just miss him.) There was just one little thing I didn't like, and it was the Villager that ended up in the real world and connecting with Marlene (played by Jennifer Coolige). I thought that was a little over the top, but then again, with her in the movie, I knew it was either going to be silly or corny and making him talk instead of the usual noises Villagers make kind of made me upset because I actually enjoy the noises they make. If you catch me in the real world, I might actually be making those noises when I'm trying to figure something out haha. Anyways, I ended up watching this movie on a Fire TV, so I guess you're able to watch it from there or from other streaming services so if you're trying to figure out what to watch with the kids, pop this one on. I'm sure you'll have a laugh or two.

Rated PG  for mild violence, language and intense scenes
