Hey guys! How's it going? I finally resolved my phone issues after not having a functioning phone after two weeks so I'm glad that got resolved. Anyways, Marvel is back at it again! So without further ado, Movie of the Day from the other day: Thunderbolts*!
What do you get when you get a group of antiheroes in the same place? A lot of violence and a lot of arguing. Yelena Belova (played by Florence Pugh) is just one of the first ones to come across the others when doing a job for her much hated boss Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (played by Julie Louis-Dreyfus) after having to deal with her estranged father, Alexei Shostakov (played by David Harbour). Oddly enough, he makes the cut to be part of the antiheroes, so it's not like she's going to get a break from him anytime soon. But since they all seem to have some kind of hatred against their common boss, it seems smart to just get her out of their lives, right? There's just one thing that doesn't seem right and it's Bob (played by Lewis Pullman). Something doesn't seem right with him and everyone can tell.
I was not expecting to like this movie as much as I did. Marvel was having a slum for a moment, so I didn't exactly have high hopes except this one just kept me interested despite all the moving parts. And when I say moving parts: there are a lot of them. From Yelena dealing with her very eccentric father which by the way I knew looked familiar. I just finished binge watching Stranger Things again and noticed David Harbour almost immediately. But I didn't forget about Bucky (played by Sebastian Stan) and for some weird reason, I just don't see him as part of Congress. Oh yeah and there's another Captain America (just when I was wrapping my head around the fact that it's just a title from the last movie). I think it's because the moving parts connected at the end that had me interested, so it was flowing kind of in a smooth transition especially from Brave New World. I'm actually quite glad I got to see this one on the big screen, because there is just something about watching the action scenes that makes you feel immersed with the characters. Anyways, so if you are thinking of watching a movie at the theater, I'd say take this one a chance. You might just like it.
*Rated PG-13 for language, violence, action, and some suggestive drug references
My Rating: B+
