Hey guys! How's it going? I'm doing alright. Just trying to beat the heat by staying indoors. But being indoors all the time has got me a little cabin fever which is why I had to take a little break last week. Anyways, Movie of the Night: 28 Years Later!
It's been three decades since the infection outbroke, and Spike (played by Alfie Williams) lives on an island with his family along with a village who knows how to protect their inhabitants from the zombies. It's not until Spike is brought to the mainland to see what it has to offer, and not only would it help him grow and become a man, but there might be someone that might actually his ailing mother. At first Spike is not up for the challenge especially when his father is boasting about his first encounter with the zombies, but because of his dad's guidance, it got him to have the courage to do something so selfless even he didn't know he had within himself.
This movie was something else. Let me just say that. I don't even remember the first two movies, but luckily you don't really need to watch the first two movies to understand what's going on in this one. There are zombies. It's scary, and there's a lot of trippy moments. One of which is a pregnant zombie giving birth. That's right. And the fact that a woman with what seems to be having moments of being forgetful helped that zombie? Yeah. That was a trip in on itself. But I actually thoroughly enjoyed the movie from the beginning to the end. Mainly because I had no idea what was going to happen next. There were a few moments where I did get a little scared at least for the characters, but there really weren't any jump scares. It's more the anxiety of what's going to happen that makes it even more intriguing. I also was not expecting Ralph Fiennes to be in the movie. I didn't get to watch any trailers or anything to prep myself for this movie, so that was a surprise, and the fact that he plays the doctor to help Spike and his mother was another trip because what he does not only makes Spike feel less guilty for taking his mother out to the mainland, but it made him look at things a little differently. As for the zombies... I forgot they are crazy intense. Not only are there different types of zombies, but the more intense ones just seem like they're on steroids, so it was fascinating just watching a zombie sprint like no other towards Spike and Jamie (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.) All in all, it was a really good movie, and I'm glad I got to see it on the big screen. I might actually watch it again since it was that good.
*Rated R for language, graphic nudity, strong intense violence, grisly images, and brief sexuality
My Rating: A+
