Fear Street: Prom Queen

Hey guys! How's it going? I'm doing alright. Just enjoying my summer before the Fall months kick in. Except over here, there isn't really a Fall. Maybe a week or two but then it plunges into the cold depths of winter. Anyways, Movie of the Night: Fear Street: Prom Queen!

It's 1988 and it's prom season for Shadyside High. The thing is there seems to be something fishy when it comes to the prom court. Specifically the candidates for Prom Queen because each of them are getting murdered by some mysterious hooded figure and Lori Granger (played by India Fowler) knows it's not her or her mother even though everyone seems to think she is to blame for her father's death making her an easy target. She has to make sure she stays alive though otherwise she will be on the list too since she decided to run for Prom Queen.

I didn't have high hopes for this one since the trilogy was really good, but compared to the trilogy, this Fear Street movie was subpar. It was definitely entertaining watching all the gruesome deaths and gore, but that was pretty much it. I mean the music definitely was a blast from the past but I don't want to mention how old I am since my parents were the ones who would jam out to those musical numbers, but I feel like this movie was missing a little something. I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe because it does somewhat tie in Sarah Fier, but unless you read the books or watched the trilogy, you would have no idea what the heck was being referenced to especially at the end when the movie shows the witch's mark. I'm pretty sure I lost some of you there haha. But the end of the movie was a trip since there was a plot twist because there are two killers and you would not expect a fellow Prom Queen candidate be out to kill Lori. I'm not going to lie: if this movie was on the big screen, I might have watched it but that is a big might. I'm not sure if anyone is a huge R.L. Stine fan, but I was back in middle school. Fear Street: Prom Queen is on Netflix if you are thinking of watching something scary. Just don't expect too much if you are wanting to jump out of your seat.

*Rated R for bloody violence and gore, language, mild drug usage, and some sexual references
