Hey guys! How's it going? Can you believe it's the last week of the year? Not only that, it's the last Monday of the year! So the next time I do a movie review, you won't see it until next year! So without further ado, Movie of the Night: Klaus!
In the town of Smeerensburg, two clans are clashing. That is until a new postman, Jesper (voiced by Jason Schwartzman) comes into town and meets Klaus (voiced by J.K Simmons) and sparks something between the clan's kids. They put aside their differences and actually play together, and because an act of kindness sparks something not only between the kids but with the adults, the two clans actually start to get along. But tradition insists the two clans still go head to head so once one of the clans realize why Jesper ended up at Smeerensburg, they end up helping him reach his goal. But he can't help but notice the change of heart he has while in the small town.
I didn't realize how heartfelt some cartoons can be, and this one hit it right in the feels. Mainly because of the magical feeling that I have been experiencing all season and this movie just accentuates the feeling. I thought this movie was going to be like how Santa came to be and it kind of is, but it has it's own twist and I love the fact that it has different elements in the story: How the town is stuck in it's own ways, how the children have to do what the grown ups are doing even though they don't understand why, and even Klaus and his own story. Oh and don't get me started on the Alva (voiced by Rashida Jones) and how she wants to get out of Smeerensburg, but once she notices the kids want to learn, she dips into her own savings and changes her fish room into a classroom. It was definitely a movie I'm glad I watched during the holidays. I kind of wish I did watch it on the big screen just to have that feeling like when you're a kid and you just see all the characters all big. It would have been interesting seeing Klaus, himself, on the big screen. Anyways, it's on Netflix, so if you're still on the holiday cheer, give it a look see!
*Rated PG for mild action and rude humor
My Rating: A
