Hey guys! How's it going? Can you believe it's already the last month of the year? I don't know about you guys but the last couple months always seem like they go by so fast. Anyways, I managed to squeeze a movie in during the holiday so without further ado, Movie of the Night: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button!
Time is a mysterious thing, but for Benjamin Button (played by Brad Pitt) it's something else completely. When he was born back in 1918, he was a baby with an old man's face and as he gets older, he looks younger but that doesn't stop him from living his life. With the help from his caretaker, Queenie (played by Taraji P. Henson), he not only learns how to walk with his old man legs but he also learns lessons about life like being on the sea or falling in love with a girl named Daisy (played by Cate Blanchett). Even though Daisy had her own life, it doesn't stop her from hearing his story whether it's from letters or a journal.
This movie has been on my to watch list forever, so I'm glad I came across this on Netflix. I just wish I could have watched this movie on the big screen, because it would have been amazing seeing Brad Pitt age backwards in theaters but it's still not bad streaming it. I also just realized this was a short story by Scott Fitzgerald. I was wondering why it had such a Great Gatsby type of feeling, and now it makes so much sense. The love story alone is just heartbreaking. To see Daisy get older while Benjamin gets younger. How do you stop something like that? But she just keeps on loving him even on her death bed. It's so tragic. But the special effects were something too, because I knew this movie was a little bit older but I didn't realize it came out in the early 2000's. I mean it makes sense on why Brad Pitt looks good but I'm just now realizing why all these popular movies were so hyped up. His old/young self looked so real. It's hard to believe special effects did that. Technology is a crazy concept. Anyways, the other stories included within this story was interesting as much as the love story. Benjamin being on a boat during the World War? That's crazy. Not to mention him meeting his father and learning about his mother. That was even crazier. Like I mentioned, this movie is on Netflix, so if you are in the mood for some romance and drama, check it out.
*Rated PG-13 for smoking, language, suggested sexual content, and brief war violence
