Pitch Perfect

Hey guys! Happy New Year! Can you believe it's 2026? And it's already a couple weeks in. How have you started the New Year? I have been enjoying some old movies that I forgot existed like this one so Movie of the Night: Pitch Perfect!

What kind of extra curriculars did you do when you went to school? For college student Beca (played by Anna Kendrick), she just wants to keep her head down low when it comes to her first year in college, but when her dad pressures her to do an extra curricular activity, an all female acapella group was the last thing on her mind. But she ends up joining, and not just because of the girls are nice to her. It might be a great addition to her resume as she tries to become a DJ in LA when she graduates, however she catches herself enjoying not only her new friends but the competition that comes along with being in the group.

I forgot when this movie came out, the music they were covering songs that came out while I was in high school, so I caught myself singing some of the songs during this movie however the singing of covers kind of gets old really fast. If you don't remember Glee, it kind of reminded me of the show. Kind of. Glee just reminds me of Kidz Bop CDs that would come out almost every year during the 2000's so covers were all over the place during that time, so the nostalgia was real during this movie. Like I was introduced to Anna Kendrick when she was in Twilight. Not as Beca. Also Cups (the song Beca plays when she auditions for the Bella's) was known as the Cup Song, and oh my goodness; The amount of times I would hear people tapping on cups around the quad was ridiculous. Not to say, it's horrible. I just think some of the covers could have been a bit better, because it did feel like some of the singing was a bit autotuned. I wouldn't know though. Maybe Rebel Wilson did sing like that in real life and I wouldn't have known. It did cover the college vibe well though when it came to Beca not wanting to do anything except focus on what she wanted to do. It definitely gives off comfort/guilty pleasure vibes, because I know I wasn't the first one to jump the lines to watch this one on the big screen. I actually watched this movie at home because my cousin is in the beginning of the movie but I zoned out for the rest of it. I just so happened to be scrolling through Netflix and caught this since they added the second one. So if you're looking for something comfy to watch at home, I'd say go for it. No one is going to shame you for singing along with the Bella's when they belt out Turn the Beat Around.

*Rated PG-13 for sexual material, drug references and language
