Dark Shadows

Hey guys! How's it going? How's your February going? It's been going for me, but the weather has taken a turn so I'm not exactly 100% so I've been chilling re-watching movies and I came across this one so without further ado, Movie of the Night: Dark Shadows!

In the 18th century, Barnabas Collins (played by Johnny Depp) was a wealthy man who came from Liverpool and was settling in America. He even had the town in Maine named after his family: Collinsport however after breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (played by Eva Green) he and his family line undergo a curse, and it starts with him becoming a vampire. Two centuries later, he comes across his family and decides to help them bring back the glamour that was once Collins Manor all the while figuring out why the mysterious Victoria Winters (played by Bella Heathcote) intrigues him so as well as the curious family Doctor Julia Hoffman (played by Helena Bonham Carter) wants to study his blood. It's not until he bumps into Angelique again that makes him realize the curse came from her so maybe she can end it. Or will she let that happen?

I forgot this movie existed, so when I saw it on Amazon Prime, I had to put it on, and I forgot how many elements were in this movie that might make some people a little confused. I have always been a fan of Tim Burton except this one doesn't make it to the top 5. Maybe because the storyline is a little all over the place but it's mainly because the curse just doesn't exactly make sense for the entire family, and I'm mainly speaking about Carolyn's (played by Chloe Grace Moretz) portion. When you're so used to seeing Johnny Depp as a vampire, seeing a werewolf come out of the blue is just a little strange. But you can still follow the story no matter how strange it gets, and it even has different stories like Victoria's, so even though it felt like multiple stories slapped together it still made sense in its weird way which I like. The weirdness is what captivated me in the first place when I watched this movie all those years ago, but it's also the comedy that drove me to watch this movie. It's silly but it has an interesting story so if you're interesting on watching it, give it a go! I'm kind of bummed out I didn't watch this one on the big screen but it's still not so bad to watch it at home .

*Rated PG-13 for smoking, language, sexual content, drug use, and horror violence

My Rating: B
