Hey guys! How's it going? Can you believe it's already April? The first quarter of the year came and went just like that. Well it's starting to get a wee bit warm over here so I might be having my lazy days with some popcorn and a movie so without further ado, Movie of the Night: Anaconda!
In this meta-reboot, Doug McCallister (played by Jack Black) is living a B/B+ life and in order to make it better, his friends decide to convince him and themselves to go to the Amazon and remake their favorite horror movie, Anaconda. But things take a turn when they bump into Ana Almeida (played by Daniela Melchior) who is not exactly who she says she is and did I mention there's something a little bit odd about their snake handler, Santiago (played by Selton Mello)? What turns out to be a project turns out to be the craziest adventure these four were not expecting.
When I first clicked on this movie on Netflix, I thought it was going to be a straight up comedy since Jack Black is in it, but it surprised me a little bit by having some of the horror and action aspects with some twists and turns and that includes the anaconda they find in Brazil. Which by the way, I have been on some weird bad CGI binge in movies and this one isn't that bad. It makes me chuckle every time I see the anaconda following the guys since it is a B-Rated movie so the special effects aren't supposed to be that good but it works well for this one. I also had to look up what meta-reboot meant, because I was trying to explain this movie to someone who thought it was an actual remake but I had to look up the word to describe the story of Anaconda being noticed in the movie but not a remake. If that makes sense. The fact they broke the fourth wall by mentioning Sony has the rights to Anaconda made me laugh, because this is the type of thing you would expect in Deadpool or some Marvel movie. But the action bits are crazy. Seeing Paul Rudd trying to man handle a snake is wildly scary and entertaining as well as Ice Cube shooting flares at it. All in all, I can see why this movie didn't make it in theaters but it would have been hilarious to see Jack Black taped with a hog on his bag and a dead squirrel in his mouth on the big screen. You can find this movie on Netflix, so if you're bored one night and in need of a chuckle of two, give it a try.
*Rated PG-13 for strong language, drug usage, violence/action, and suggestive references
