Hey guys! How's it going? I know. It's been a minute since my last movie review. I took a little break from movies and have been binge watching shows, but I finally added Prime onto my PS5 so that I'm not watching too many outdated movies haha. So without further ado, Movie of the Night: The Conjuring 4: Last Rites!
Ed Warren (played by Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (played by Vera Farmiga) are back for one last case in The Conjuring 4: Last Rites. It is 1986, and the Smurl family is having a haunting like nothing ever before and it started happening after the grandparents got their granddaughter a haunted mirror from an antique shop for her Communion. The thing is the family didn't know the mirror was haunted until it was too late. Not to mention, the mirror is familiar to Ed and Lorraine except Ed is battling heart problems and needs to take it easy, however he doesn't realize his daughter, Judy (played by Mia Tomlinson), is having visions and they are drawing her to the house in Pennsylvania where the Smurl family reside. Ed and Lorraine do everything they can to protect their daughter as well as the Smurl family, but what happens if it's too late?
For those who don't know me, I am deeply fascinated with this franchise especially when it comes to the Nun but following Ed and Lorraine is something else. The cases they have been on from the farmhouse to London is crazy. It's intense, so if you are not a horror fan, I suggest skipping this one. But for those who are, you are in for a trip. The hauntings do not ease up and the jump scares are somewhat mild, but the suspense has you wondering when the scares are going to happen. At least that's what got me. There are a lot of paranormal entities in this one and I couldn't decide which one was more interesting: the one in the mirror that wanted Judy or the one in the basement who killed his wife and daughter but it just makes you realize how traumatized this family is because the ghosts would not leave them alone. Not to mention Judy. Poor Judy. She was trying to keep her visions from bothering her, but when they interfere with her daily life, it just got to a point where her fiance, Tony (played by Ben Hardy) got involved, and this poor guy was just trying to get her parents' blessing. I really wished I could have watched this one in theaters, because I can only imagine seeing these poltergeists on the big screen. But if you do have Prime, check it out on there!
*Rated R for terror and violent/bloody content
