Hey guys! How's it going? I'm hanging in there. It has officially reached the triple digits and I'm doing my best to cope with it... yet I'm still doing outdoor workouts. Does that make me insane? Haha anyways, I feel like it has been a minute since I have stepped foot in a theater so I had to make sure I went for this one. So Movie of the Night: The Devil Wears Prada 2!
It has been two decades since Andy Sachs (played by Anne Hathaway) has stepped into the world of Runway yet when her journalism career takes a turn for the worst, she was not expecting to be back where she started: Working for Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep) except this time Andy is working with Miranda to make sure Runway has not lost it's spark in the world of AI and technology. With the help of former coworkers, Andy does her best to make sure Miranda and Runway gets the spotlight it so much deserves.
You have no idea how much I have been wanting to watch this movie especially on the big screen yet for some weird reason, movies nowadays just seem to be losing some of their spark and I'm not just talking about this movie. Is it me or does it seem there's no originality anymore? Everything seems to be a reboot or based off a book. It's just upsetting to me to see the creative minds of today's world not putting their imagination on the screen. But that's what this movie is about: B.J. Novak plays Miranda's temporary boss after her former boss, Irv (played by Tibor Feldman), passes away and the vision he holds for Runway is nothing but what the corporate world is like today. Layoffs, technology replacing human creativity, and a whole bunch of downgrading. Oh did I mention Miranda has to be mindful of what she says due to the more aware people because of body shaming? The phrase "lost it's bite" has it's effect on Miranda, and even though that's what a lot of critics are saying about her in this movie she still hasn't lost her spunk. She's just trying to keep her head cool before losing a job that she is passionate about as well as Andy. Now maybe it's me being passionate about how technology doesn't have a mind of it's own when it comes to creativity, but it is true about what this movie has: A human aspect no robot can replace. Nigel (played by Stanley Tucci) gets the praise that he deserves and oh my goodness. Did I mention Lady Gaga makes an appearance in this film? I love the cast, and despite the modernization of what today's world is like I'm glad I got to watch this on the big screen otherwise I would not have noticed half of the clothes Miranda or Andy was wearing.
*Rated PG-13 for language and suggestive references
My Rating: B
